Esther Stewart

Esther Stewart’s work springs from the contrasting of form and colour, shifted and repositioned to produce clashes and illusory effects. Her paintings mimic the lines of architectural spaces and topographical mapping, eschewing conventional perspective.

Stewart completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2008, completing first class honours in 2010 and graduating from a Master of Cultural and Arts Management at the University of Melbourne in 2013. Recent group exhibitions include Never-Never Land, Roslyn Oxley 9 in collaboration with Utopian Slumps, Sydney, 2014; SUB12, The Substation, Melbourne, 2013; painting/sculpture/floor work/wall work, curated by Renee Cosgrave, Stockroom, Kyneton, 2013; Group Work, Mr Kitly, 2012; Obus Wall Project no.6, Craft Cubed Festival, 2012; Debut 2010, Blindside, Melbourne, 2011;House Me Within a Geometric Quality, Platform Contemporary Art Space, Melbourne, 2011; and Annual Manual: A Guide to Australian Design Now, Object Space, Sydney, 2011. Esther was finalist in the Incinerator Moonee Ponds Sculpture Awards in 2010; and the Craft Victoria Fresh! Awards in 2010.
