The paintings and sculptures in Utopian Slumps’ suite in Spring 1883 will replicate and play with the materials and surfaces of The Hotel Windsor. Artists will work with gold, marble, bronze, textiles and ceramic, referencing the opulence and historical significance of the hotel setting. Nathan Gray’s The Windsor Arc extends his recent Works Under 30 Seconds project through a series of short videos filmed at The Hotel Windsor; Thomas Jeppe’s new paintings riff from his recent intervention in the hotel’s Dame Nellie Melba suite with Gyprien Gaillard; while Esther Stewart’s experimentation with gold leafing and marble effects mimic the hotel’s grand interiors.
